Passion for the product you sell is the foundation of any successful business. If you truly believe in what you’re offering, that enthusiasm will resonate with your customers and employees alike.

As part of Authority Magazine's series about 5 Things You Need To Run A Highly Successful Family Business, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jake Stotter.

Jake Stotter grew up in Deerfield, in the Northshore suburbs of Chicago. A graduate of Miami University’s Farmer School of Business with a Marketing Degree, Jake began his career as a Consultant for Fortune 500 companies and Unicorn Startups, focusing on optimizing digital product offerings. He later joined his family business, Fenceworks, a company founded in 1967 by his grandfather, Stan Ascher — fondly known as “The Guy on 41.” As the third-generation leader, Jake combines a deep respect for tradition with a forward-thinking approach, embracing digital innovation to meet the evolving needs of modern consumers. His mission is to help families create lasting memories by providing high-quality, safe, and enjoyable outdoor products.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Jake is dedicated to giving back. He is actively involved with Experience Camps, an organization offering transformative experiences for children who have lost a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. Having lost his own mother at 16, Jake is deeply committed to helping grieving children feel supported and understood.
