Are wooden swing sets better than metal sets?
Many families prefer wood. A solid cedar swing set feels sturdy, holds up to years of active play and looks more natural in a backyard than metal or plastic. It does need occasional sealing or staining. If you'd rather skip that, ask us about vinyl-wrapped playsets.
What type of wood is best for a swing set?
Cedar is one of the most popular choices. It naturally resists rot, decay and insects, its oils act as a natural preservative, and it splinters less than many other woods. Pine is less expensive but typically needs more frequent sealing to protect it.
What's the difference between Playground One and Backyard Adventures?
Both build their sets from cedar. Playground One uses solid beam Pacific cedar and organizes its forts and playcenters into series and combo layouts. Backyard Adventures builds modular cedar systems in its Outlook, Summit, Peak and Treehouse lines, with options like wood roofs, bridges and cabin packages.
How do I choose the right size wooden playset?
Start with your yard measurements and the safety zone around the set, then look at your kids' ages and how they play. Use the size, deck height and number-of-decks filters on this page, or bring your measurements to our showroom and we'll help you compare.
Do you install wooden swing sets?
Yes. Fenceworks offers professional installation for wooden swing sets across Chicagoland and the North Shore suburbs. Installation is quoted separately, and we'll talk through access, timing and site preparation during your free estimate.
How do I maintain a cedar swing set?
Check bolts and hardware each season, keep the surfacing underneath topped up, and reseal or restain the wood periodically to protect it from the weather. Cedar's natural oils help it resist decay between treatments.
