Lincolnshire Fence Installation Permit Process
General Submission Requirements
- Plat of Survey signed and sealed by a registered State of Illinois Land Surveyor.
- Site plan or plat of survey accurately locating the fence, berms, and the dimension setbacks from proposed fence to property lines or conservancy area boundaries.
- Location, size, and species of any tree within 25 feet of the proposed work. (Contact the Building Official with any questions or concerns).
- Type of building-fence material to be used.
- Height and width of the post holes. Minimum 36-inch depth on post holes.
- Location of any gates or openings in the fence.
- A copy of the installation agreement generally provides much of the necessary information requested.
- Fences are required to be 40% open.
- Fences are only permitted to be four (4) feet in height.* Exceptions are for homes adjacent to Half Day Road and Riverwoods Road, as well as fences separating non-compatible land uses. *See Village Code regarding fence regulations for more information.

General Inspection and Permit Information
- Contractor/Homeowner shall be on site with the approved plans for all required inspections.
- Allow 24 hours advance notification for required inspections.
- Inspection scheduling hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Call Community and Economic Development to schedule inspections at 847-913-2325 or fax your inspection request to 847-883-8608.
- The Village strives to provide timely review comments, however, up to a three week review period for first comments may be necessary.
- This permit will be valid for a period of six months from the date of permit issuance. After that time period, a new permit and fee will be required.
- The applicant shall be responsible for all issues regarding construction and compliance under this permit. It is common practice for the contractor to sign as the applicant.
- Permitted hours of construction for Commercial Contractors are as follows:
MONDAY - FRIDAY 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
SATURDAY - 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
SUNDAY – No work permitted.
General Submission Notes
- Currently, we regulate per the following code editions: 2018 International Residential Code Edition, Current Illinois Plumbing Code, 2017 National Electrical Code and all current Village Codes and Ordinances.
- Fences are not permitted to encroach on a Conservancy Area or a neighboring property.
