Premium Materials
Western Red Cedar, Michigan White Cedar and Redwood, chosen for fences built to last.
Customizable
All wood fences are custom built at your home. This allows us to tailor the fence to your home's needs
Renewable Resource
As a natural material, wood is a sustainable choice, especially when sourced responsibly.
Sound Absorption
Wood's natural properties help in dampening and reducing ambient noise.
Posts Set to Last
How long a fence lasts comes down to its posts, so this is where we're most careful. Every cedar post is hand-picked and set deep to industry standard, so the fence stays straight through Chicago's freeze and thaw. Prefer steel? Steel posts are available as an upgrade.
Cedar Rails
The rails tie every board to the posts, so they carry the weight of the whole fence. We use professional-grade cedar for them, not the cheaper lumber that warps, splits and rots first.
Thicker, Denser Boards
Our pickets are thicker, wider and denser than big-box lumber. They cost a little more up front, and they're what keeps a fence looking right after years of Chicagoland weather and everyday wear.
Built Board by Board
This is what sets us apart. We never put up pre-made panels. Every fence is built on site, one board at a time, fitted to your yard's grade and property lines. It's how Stan Ascher, the original Guy on 41, built fences in 1967, and it's how we still build them.

Opinions about fence installation by THE GUY ON 41
When it comes to a Fence instillation.. there is no better company in the north shore/chicago that I would recommend more than Fenceworks. They truly care about each customer like their family. I was informed every step of the way, true transparency throughout. Pricing was fair and competitive, and the craftsmanship was truly amazing. I look forward to buying a playground, trampoline, and basketball hoop this spring to wrap up all my home improvement projects in the future!

I am so happy with the work that was completed. Fast, friendly, courteous, and honest. I had a beautiful fence built in my backyard and they worked so hard and quickly. I could not be happier and I will use them for any future projects.

Learn More Show Less
Is a picket fence good for keeping pets in?
It can be, depending on the size of the pet and the spacing of the pickets. We'll help you choose a spacing that suits your yard.
What's the difference between dog ear picket and gothic picket?
Dog ear pickets have clipped corners on top. Gothic pickets come to a point, which gives a more traditional, formal look.
Can I get a gate to match?
Yes. We build gates on site to match the fence.
Do you install picket fences in front yards?
Yes. Front yards are where picket fences are most common. Some villages have front-yard fence rules, so it's worth checking with yours.
