Posts Set to Last
How long a fence lasts comes down to its posts, so this is where we're most careful. Every cedar post is hand-picked and set deep to industry standard, so the fence stays straight through Chicago's freeze and thaw. Prefer steel? Steel posts are available as an upgrade.
Cedar Rails
The rails tie every board to the posts, so they carry the weight of the whole fence. We use professional-grade cedar for them, not the cheaper lumber that warps, splits and rots first.
Thicker, Denser Boards
Our pickets are thicker, wider and denser than big-box lumber. They cost a little more up front, and they're what keeps a fence looking right after years of Chicagoland weather and everyday wear.
Built Board by Board
This is what sets us apart. We never put up pre-made panels. Every fence is built on site, one board at a time, fitted to your yard's grade and property lines. It's how Stan Ascher, the original Guy on 41, built fences in 1967, and it's how we still build them.

Naturally resists decay and insects, with a rich reddish-brown grain that stands up to hard winters. -
Redwood
Natural oils resist rot and warping. Stain it to keep the warm red tone, or let it weather to silver-grey. -

A pale, native cedar that resists rot and insects and needs very little upkeep.

Is a solid dog ear fence completely private?
Yes. The boards sit edge to edge, so there are no gaps to see through.
Which side of the fence faces out?
Usually the smooth side of the boards faces out, toward the neighbor or street. Some villages have rules on this, so it's worth checking before you build.
Can I add a third rail or steel posts?
Yes. An optional third rail and steel posts are both available. We can explain the trade-offs during your estimate.
How long does installation take?
Most fence installations take one to two days, depending on the size of the job and the site.
