Wood Fence Style

Who a traditional fence suits

This is the fence most people picture when they think of a well-built wood privacy fence. The boards sit tight together inside a frame: a rail along the bottom, a rail and cap board along the top, and a capped post at each end.

The frame is what sets it apart from a plain dog ear fence. It hides the board ends, gives every section a finished edge, and looks as good from the house as it does from the street. Good fit for:

  • Back yards that need full privacy
  • Colonial, craftsman and traditional homes
  • Homeowners who want a fence that looks finished from both sides of the line

Opinions about fence installation by THE GUY ON 41

When it comes to a Fence instillation.. there is no better company in the north shore/chicago that I would recommend more than Fenceworks. They truly care about each customer like their family. I was informed every step of the way, true transparency throughout. Pricing was fair and competitive, and the craftsmanship was truly amazing. I look forward to buying a playground, trampoline, and basketball hoop this spring to wrap up all my home improvement projects in the future!

I am so happy with the work that was completed. Fast, friendly, courteous, and honest. I had a beautiful fence built in my backyard and they worked so hard and quickly. I could not be happier and I will use them for any future projects.

Traditional wood privacy fence installation

Learn More Show Less

A traditional fence takes the solid privacy fence and finishes it. The rails frame each section, the cap board covers the end grain along the top, and the capped posts give the run a steady rhythm.

A frame only looks right when every section matches, so Fenceworks builds each one on site, board by board, and sets the rails and caps to follow your yard's grade. Steel posts are available as an upgrade.

Family-owned since 1967, we build traditional fences across Chicagoland and the North Shore. Book a free on-site estimate or stop by our Northbrook showroom.

What makes a fence traditional?

The frame. The boards sit inside a top and bottom rail, a cap board runs along the top, and each post has its own cap.

How is it different from the modern top style?

On a traditional fence the capped posts stand a little above the top rail. On our modern top style the posts finish flush, so the top is one straight line.

Is a traditional fence fully private?

Yes. The boards sit tight together inside the frame, so there are no gaps to see through.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Every fence estimate is free and done at your home.
