Posts Set to Last
How long a fence lasts comes down to its posts, so this is where we're most careful. Every cedar post is hand-picked and set deep to industry standard, so the fence stays straight through Chicago's freeze and thaw. Prefer steel? Steel posts are available as an upgrade.
Cedar Rails
The rails tie every board to the posts, so they carry the weight of the whole fence. We use professional-grade cedar for them, not the cheaper lumber that warps, splits and rots first.
Thicker, Denser Boards
Our pickets are thicker, wider and denser than big-box lumber. They cost a little more up front, and they're what keeps a fence looking right after years of Chicagoland weather and everyday wear.
Built Board by Board
This is what sets us apart. We never put up pre-made panels. Every fence is built on site, one board at a time, fitted to your yard's grade and property lines. It's how Stan Ascher, the original Guy on 41, built fences in 1967, and it's how we still build them.

Natural oils resist rot and warping. Stain it to keep the warm red tone, or let it weather to silver-grey. -

A pale, native cedar that resists rot and insects and needs very little upkeep.

Is this fence private?
The solid lower section is. The top band is spaced, so it lets light through above eye level.
How is it different from a standard horizontal fence?
A standard horizontal fence is solid top to bottom. This style swaps the top boards for spaced slats.
Can I use steel posts?
Yes. Powder-coated steel posts suit this style and are available as an upgrade.
